Check out what's happening on the farm:
A new gnome has arrived and taken up residence in the shade bed. Who wouldn't choose this relatively cool spot during the heat wave?
The original banana plant is thriving in morning shade and afternoon sun. I have had problems finding plants for this situation because of their tendency to lean out towards the light. The banana resists this inclination (get it?) and grows straight and tall.
While we are not yet officially in drought conditions in Ohio, it is "abnormally dry." I eagerly await the maturation and departure of the 150 or so tree frog tadpoles living in the stock tank so I can use this water for irrigation. I became excited when I saw what looked like developing rear legs, but my hopes were dashed when I realized the tadpoles were just pooping.
I'm not seeing the butterflies I usually see this time of year. Today I spotted an eastern tiger swallowtail and this luscious northern pearly-eye. They come every year at this time and live in the lilac bushes, sipping sap.
Spot the visitor to my rock garden.
Stay safe. Drink lots of fluids, especially coffee. Don't go into the sun unless you absolutely have to. Wear a mask.
